AI Seminar: Cut Finite Element Methods for Contact Problem

Susanne Claus, Postdoc in the Image Analysis, Computational Modelling and Geometry Section at Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen.

In this presentation, I will first give a brief introduction into the fundamentals of finite element methods followed by an overview over a novel finite element method that I am developing for contact problems. The highlight of the new method lies in the description of geometries using level set functions combined with fixed finite element background grids. I will show numerical results for contact in composite materials and I will show how the method is used to create efficient pipelines from CT images to finite element simulations.
